Top Beaches of Ikaria – Hidden Coves, Wild Coastlines and Crystal-Clear Water

Discover the most beautiful beaches of Ikaria – from the famous Seychelles Beach to hidden coves like Iero and Trapalou. A guide to the island’s most stunning swimming spots.

Seychelles Beach
Probably the most famous beach on Ikaria lies on the south coast near the village of Manganitis. Seychelles Beach truly lives up to its name: smooth white pebbles, turquoise water and dramatic rock formations create a landscape reminiscent of tropical islands. The beach can only be reached on foot via a short path or by boat – but the effort is rewarded with one of the most spectacular swimming spots in the Aegean.
Nas Beach
At the end of a deep bay lies Nas Beach, where the Chalaris River flows into the sea. In ancient times a temple dedicated to the goddess Artemis Tavropoulos stood here. Today the place attracts nature lovers, hikers and sunset watchers. The unique combination of river, beach, cliffs and glowing sunsets gives Nas a magical atmosphere. Taverns above the beach invite visitors to linger while enjoying the panoramic view.
Messakti & Livadi
These two wide beaches near Armenistis are among the most popular on the island. Messakti offers fine golden sand, shallow water and pine trees that provide natural shade – perfect for families and long beach days. Right next to it lies Livadi, a little quieter and wilder but equally beautiful. The steady waves also attract surfers and kayakers, and several beach bars and sunbeds are available.
Faros Beach
On the eastern side of Ikaria, close to the island’s airport, lies Faros Beach – a long sandy shoreline with calm, crystal-clear water. It is especially popular with locals thanks to its easy access and relaxed atmosphere. A small promenade with cafés and fish taverns makes it a wonderful place to spend an entire day by the sea.
Trapalou
Those who enjoy remote places will love Trapalou Beach near Karkinagri. This almost deserted pebble beach has a rugged and untouched character. The road from Karkinagri leads along a gravel track to the bay. A small traditional taverna nearby serves homemade dishes with a beautiful view over the sea.
Kambos Beach
Kambos, our neighbouring bay, is a peaceful hidden gem. The long sandy beach with clear water is surrounded by open landscape and gentle hills. Even in high season it remains relaxed and spacious. During summer months a small beach bar offers refreshments and sunbeds.
Aris
The beach of Aris, used mainly by the villagers of Karavostamo, can be reached via a steep road east of the village. The long pebble shore is framed by impressive cliffs on both sides, creating a dramatic natural setting where you see little else but mountains and sea. In summer a charming beach bar provides drinks and snacks.
Partheni Beach
Just west of the large Kampos Beach lies the small and tranquil Partheni Beach. The sheltered sandy bay with clear, usually calm water is perfect for relaxed swimming and families with children. The bay almost resembles a natural harbour and often offers excellent conditions for snorkelling. A nearby taverna invites visitors to pause and enjoy the sea view.
St. George Beach (Agios Georgios)
Located at the eastern end of the island, Agios Georgios Beach is one of Ikaria’s quieter coastal spots. The small bay of pebbles and rocks lies within a wild coastal landscape and impresses with deep blue, crystal-clear water. Visitors come here mainly for nature, silence and swimming in pristine surroundings.
Iero Beach
At the eastern tip of Ikaria lies the small and rather hidden Iero Beach. Surrounded by rocks and Mediterranean vegetation, the bay has a calm and almost mystical atmosphere. The water is exceptionally clear and perfect for swimming. Close to the beach lies the Cave of Dionysos, an ancient cult site connected to the island’s mythological past. Because the beach remains little known, visitors often find it peaceful and uncrowded.
